What I thought of The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow #2

Thoughts about #1shadow5

Issue 2 of Howard Chaykin’s return to The Shadow in a post-WW 2 adventure sees the story move it’s focus from New York to London but not after a gang war initiated by The Shadow before he enters his retirement breaks out to wipe out criminals.

Much of this issue is exposition in either New York with the Shadow/Lamont Cranston wrapping things up before retiring, or in London with our mysterious couple planning whatever it is they’re planning which we assume, will involve the Shadow in a final adventure.

This isn’t a great story. In fact it seems like Chaykin is trading on past glories not to mention is really padding out a tale of the Shadow’s last adventure more than it should be as really the first two issues story could easily have been told in one, pacier issue than the near glacial pace the story chugs on at times. The art however is simply lovely & is right now, the only reason I’m going to stick with this to see where it eventually goes.
