London never sleeps, it just sucks….

I liked Catatonia because they had some bloody great singles, not to mention Cerys Matthews had, and still does have, an amazing voice. They sadly ended too soon, mainly I seem to remember because of the negative reaction for the song Londinium, which is a vastly underappreciated classic. I’ve not heard any other pop song which describes the cloying death London can inflict upon people, especially those from a more rural setting or a friendly city.

It also came out at a time when Britpop still ruled, and the media were all in love with London and the diseased glamour of the place, though this was just before the serious oligarch money started coming into the city and it started really sucking the country dry.

Londinium describes a time and a feeling still valid now. It’s a great song and here it is to enjoy…
