Thoughts about #1.
Dominic Regan’s second issue of People Protector Akay: Beware the Beastman is as much fun as the first while retaining the same wild originality as we’re getting used to from this series. Any comic though which has talking elephants near the start has to be bought and read all the way through.
I guarantee you won’t see a comic that looks like this on sale this week. This isn’t just down to the art, or indeed, the story of a prehistoric hero defeating evil, but just the colours and feel of Akay is unlike anything else out there right now. Some of the panels are extraordinary to look at as Dominic always sticks to the three panel grid to cater for digital readers, but he makes these panels worth looking at.
This is a lovely comic which really is passing many people by yet there’s more going on here than there is in an entire year’s worth of DC Comics.
This issue ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger so this is really the time to come onboard this comic and see what someone trying to tell a story in an original manner can do via the digital medium. It’s 69p from Comixology so it’s worth it.
