1997 was a good year. It had one of the best Glastonbury Festival’s ever. There was a decent music scene. I was having all sort of fun. The sun shone. Also, the Tories were voted out after 18 years and replaced by Tony Blair’s Labour. Oh the optimism.
The election night itself in 1997 was brilliant watching Tories fall like ninepins, but before that really kicked in cool people like me watched The Election Night Armistice. This was a comedy programme presented by Armando Ianucci that 18 years later stands up magnificently as a brilliant work of comedy, but is still scarily relevant today. The hung parliament sketch is a joy.
I’d recommend sitting down spending a few hours savouring this bit of television history.
