What I thought of Project Superpowers: Black Cross #3

Thoughts about #1 and #2.

What I love about this different take on some pretty average superheroes is that not only has Warren Ellis subverted what most people would expect from such a series, he’s introduced a mystery that hides a creeping sense of dread that something utterly terrible is coming. In effect, this is a horror comic hiding as a superhero or mystery comic.

It appears the Project Superpowers characters are trapped in another world, and the only way they can cross into ours is as essentially ghosts inhabiting other people’s bodies with the side effect of giving that person super powers. In fact these people are the counterparts of the superheroes on this world. It’s all in all a nice little concept as it seems some of the people being possessed are not taking to their new powers well.

Black Cross really is a brilliant little comic. If you don’t read it, you’ll miss a serious treat.
