After last issue where it was revealed Woden has been helping Annake in murdering people you’d think things would be a bit calmer this issue as since the death of Laura the plot of The Wicked and the Divine has fairly cracked along at some pace. This issue though deals with the aftermath of the last couple of issues and how it affects those members of the pantheon that are unaware that Annake is manipulating things under the pretense there may be war.
Problem is the remaining members of the pantheon are at best divided, at worst ready to tear each other apart. This tension results in Amaterasu and Urdr having a bit of a scrap in Japan.
This really is a little bit of breathing space as Gillen starts setting things up further so this is really just a character driven issue, but with this comic there’s no such thing as ‘just’ a character driven issue. In terms of recent issues this isn’t the same quality but it’s a strong issue that has much going for it, especially the little chat near the end between two characters who have more of a connection than they first thought.
