England Prevails-The sad story of UKIP’s ‘earthquake’

It’s the day when results for the European Elections across the EU and far right parties like the National Front in France have won a number of seats. Here in the UK, our far right party of the day is UKIP who have, sadly, won themselves a number of MEP’s, including one in Scotland which is depressing to say the least. Nigel Farage is now saying UKIP are the ‘third force’ in a four party system.

Problem is for UKIP, reality says another thing. As I write this, Scotland still has to declare but this is the percentages of the parties as I write this.

Image

UKIP are indeed top of the pile. The first party that ins’t Tory or Labour to win a British national election since the Second World War.There are however things to note and let’s start by pointing out where The Greens are. They’re fourth on with an addition MEP on a slightly reduced share of the vote. Imagine if those parts of the media that alleges itself to be ‘progressive’ like say, The Guardian, had pushed for the Greens instead of telling their readers that UKIP were racists in a stream of articles which according to Private Eye, have been fed to them by the Tories.

Image

If true, then that’s simply extraordinary. It’s also something which if found to be true should make Alan Rusbridger resign as they had a chance to present an alternative vision, but instead jumped to help out the Tories. Think about the implications of that for a minute and when you’ve picked up your jaw realise that there is an establishment that was working against UKIP but instead of The Guardian telling the Tories to fuck off, they allegedly jumped into bed with them. So much for ‘progressive’ politics, or offering any sort of genuine left wing alternative.

As for the BBC’s cheerleading for Farage and UKIP thanks mainly to the odious Nick Robinson. Well, that’s also creating a media-led narrative which paints UKIP as ‘outsiders’ (they’re not) against the establishment. It makes good, tabloid telly and it’s a narrative much of the media lapped up. It’s entirely wrong of course but it doesn’t stop it being repeated across a media mainly based in London.

Now I admit to having voted Green as I outlined here, but with reservations but they seem to be a good protest vote against the establishment that isn’t a bunch of xenophobic fascists and racists. Had say, The Guardian fell behind them, or presented the other options instead of shilling for the Tories or preaching to the converted, then things may possibly be different. We’ll never know. We do know they put out this extraordinary piece with the headline ”Ukip results reveal divide between London and rest of England” on Friday which pushed the line that smart, educated, cosmopolitan London were too clever for UKIP. The facts however are that virtually every major English city, so Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Manchester, Wigan, Sunderland, Newcastle and many others have no UKIP Councillors. Here in Bristol where UKIP spent what must be tens of thousands of pounds judging by the amount of billboards across the city, they only walked away with one seat.

UKIP’s ‘earthquake’ actually wasn’t anything of the kind on Friday, and although the European Elections have been a victory for them, there are reasons for this. Go back up and look at the graphic of what party got what percentages of votes. Look at how the BNP vote has collapsed. It doesn’t take a genius to work out where that vote has probably went to, especially when you note the amount of EDL supporters who are very vocal UKIP supporters on social media. For example:

racistukip

A wee shufty through Twitter will find hundreds, if not thousands, more like this. UKIP may not be openly racist, or saying they openly court racism but they and it’s getting them support. It’s worked but it’s too easy to suggest it’s only just EDL and former BNP voters voting UKIP, it’s not. There’s people who want to simply give the establishment a bloody nose and if UKIP are racist, well, it’s not the point. It’s about using the system to voice dissent. UKIP have been smart enough (either by design or accident) to take advantage of this so that Farage sets himself up outside of the establishment and is giving Westminster a bloody nose. The truth is that Farage is as much part of the establishment as Cameron, Milliband and Clegg, and doesn’t stand for free speech, and in fact has tried to actively suppress free speech in this election. This doesn’t matter though to UKIP voters as they see UKIP standing for something which is a vision of Britain, and more specifically, England standing dominant over all, including the other countries of the United Kingdom. For them England Prevails and they see Farage’s vision so they vote for it. It’s smoke and mirrors but people voted for it. UKIP are for something, even if the smarter among us know it’s a lie.

Here’s the problem with many of us on the left. We’ve been against so many things for so long, we’ve forgotten what it’s like to be for something so it’s easy to complain about the Daily Mail, or Tweet about ‘Bullingdon Boys’, but presenting a decent, alternative to right wing politics that people of all classes can look at and consider something to vote for?

Nah.

So when Russell Brand says that voting is a waste of time vast chunks of people on the left, especially young people, think this is a great idea. Selling a vision of apathy or that voting changes nothing looks pretty fucking hollow today as UKIP sail into seats across the UK, including one in Scotland. it doesn’t look like voting is a ‘waste of time’ today. I think Nigel Farage is quite grateful of people like Brand ensuring younger voters don’t turn out as they buy into Brand’s sixth form political rhetoric. It allows the media to shape the idea that it’s only London that votes against UKIP, or that in the words of Nick Robinson, UKIP are causing an ‘earthquake’ when the reality of the night is that, well, UKIP won on a 34% turnout.

34%.

That’s 66% who didn’t vote. They couldn’t even muster up the energy to spoil a ballot paper. I don’t blame UKIP voters for this. They’re wankers but they’re wankers who voted for something, even if it’s xenophobia and racism. You lot who didn’t vote did nothing to help, especially in the European elections which uses PR and your vote actually means something. You could have voted Green, or No2Eu, or SNP, or Plaid Cymru, or any of the leftish alternatives. Fuck, you could even have voted for one of the three main parties but no, you didn’t do anything so you’re now going to sit back an complain about how the EU does things, or Nigel Farage/Ed Milliband/Alex Salmond. David Cameron/whomever, or how your city is run but you didn’t do that one thing that people have died to get, which is vote.

Well done, you’re as culpable for this as someone who put an X by UKIP on the ballot paper.

So what now? Well Nick Robinson on the BBC is still wittering on about how so very important Nigel Farage is, and Labour and the Tories are trying to work out how much more like UKIP they can become, while the Lib Dems are going to tear themselves apart. The post mortem in Scotland is going to be an interesting one but it speaks volumes that the UKIP MEP for Scotland has a home address in London.  Will UKIP even win a seat in the general election next year? Possibly, but now they have over 20 MEP’s that’s over twenty opportunities for the sort of enormous fuck ups of the type we’re used to from UKIP.

Like the BNP before them, UKIP have to prove they walk the talk. They won’t, or at least, the majority won’t as there’s rattling skeletons (there’s already rumours all their new MEP’s are donating 10#% of their salary to be paid into UKIP’s coffers, something not permitted by law) still to be exposed with UKIP’s new MEP’s and fantastic groups like Hope not Hate, and the odd journalist here and there will expose. However without something for people to vote for, UKIP aren’t going away.

Democracy is hard. That’s the point. Sitting on you arse apathetically complaining leads to this. People now have just under a year to wake up and work out what they’re going to do.

So just what is it that you want to do?

Inside Tommy Robinson

Tommy Robinson, the leader of the EDL has quit to work with Muslims in order to combat Islamic extremism. He says he’s seen the extremism within his group and how it was veering towards violence and extremism itself, so has consulted with the Quiliam Group in order to work with them. He appears to have found a different way to combat what is a very real threat of Islamic extremism not through violence, intimidation and protests which have often cost cash-strapped councils hundreds of thousands of pounds to police which is a way the EDL have essentially used as a form of blackmail, but through other ways of protest which are more democratic than Tweeting about ‘Muzzys’ and suggesting members take to the street at any opportunity, or even this.

Robinson has told Channel 4 News tonight he postponed leaving the EDL due to the murder of Lee Rigby. Now if one is to assume Robinson, and the EDL’s other leader, Kevin Carroll, have decided that the typical EDL tactics are no more, but Robinson has spent the months since Rigby’s murder whipping up hate against Muslims, starting fights and all manner of things which make my Spidey Sense tingle that perhaps Robinson is trying to stay out of prison for a while, though there’s also a part of me which is hopeful that he’s actually recanted on his past actions that’s only a very, very, very small part and this is about rebranding the EDL, ditching the more hardcore racists and possibly even looking to use this as a platform to launch a political career. After all, it’s hard to be an MP if you’re in prison for racially abusing someone.

There are however six questions posed by Hope not Hate Robinson can answer to see how legitimate he is.

1) Will you accept your role in inciting and fostering anti-Muslim hatred in communities up and down the country?

2) If so, what do you intend to do about it?

3) Do you admit to deliberately conflating Islamist extremism with the faith of Islam to spread an anti-Muslim agenda?

4) If the EDL has been taken over by far right extremists will you name names?

5) Will you reveal the names of the EDL funders?

6) Will you renounce your past links and speak out against Pam Geller and Robert Spencer?

He answers all of those then, and only then, I’ll be convinced he’s a changed man and this isn’t a stunt. Til then we can all watch EDL supporters tear themselves apart online as they all flail around hopelessly working out what to do next.

UKIP Ban HOPE Not Hate

UKIP have decided to show their new, shiny inclusive nature by banning members of Hope Not Hate, the anti-racist group, while it’s members scream ‘FREE SPEECH’ like some sort of Pavlovic Dog whenever anyone pulls them up on the point that they’re no longer an inclusive party, assuming they were in the first place.

Take for example this exchange:

Image

There’s something inherently stupid about someone complaining about being denied ‘free speech’ while speaking opening. This sadly, is the level UKIP occupy as the microscope is on them and they frankly don’t like it as they’re no longer able to frame themselves in the way they want. Or basically, they’re no longer manipulating the debate so that when they do get pulled up their only defence is to cry martyr and accuse everyone else of denying them of removing their right to free speech or some such bollocks because they really do know they’re on intellectual thin ice.

See, the message UKIP and it’s leader Nigel Farage send out by banning an anti-racist group is that they’re not actually that serious of helping groups like Hope Not Hate fight racism, and that not only are they incredibly thin-skinned for an alleged mainstream political party. It’s almost as if they don’t want people to realise what they actually are and have something to hide…….

The March of the EDL

Today the EDL had a jolly little march through London which resulted in several arrests, including that of the EDL leader, Stephen Lennon, AKA Tommy Robinson. What was amusing was seeing Lennon martyr himself by getting arrested which was then followed by his supporters setting up a fund to pay for his legal costs, which of course will not go to any of Lennon’s mounting legal problems at all. Jings never!

I do however have a point to make in that EDL supporters seem singularly unable to actually articulate why on earth they’re supporting a group who’s goals are at best dubious and at worst are just outright fascistic in nature. The claim that the EDL ‘supports the military’ is simply a load of utter fucking cobblers as they’re not supporting the army in any way at all, and if they were then they should join up, however as most of them wouldn’t last five seconds they’d be singularly crap in any conflict. I also find the ‘but we’re working class people protecting our streets’ line to be one of the most intentionally obtuse things the EDL have ever said.

I’m from a strong working class background and I’ve also spoken about the language of race in the past, and frankly the working class are no more racist than any other class but they will be the first to feel any effects of a new group integrating itself in the country because immigrants are often stuck at the bottom of the pile along with the working class so if there’s not a lot to go around then people will blame easy scapegoats, especially if the middle class refuse to let immigrants move into traditional middle class areas.

No, the idea that because someone supporting the EDL is working class that they should logically follow them is bollocks. It’s divisive nonsense.  There is something to be said about the gentrification of former working class multicultural areas to be said, but that’s for another time. Today is about pointing and laughing at the EDL’s failure to achieve this huge street movement that will change the nation.

Their festishisation of the military is nothing but a smokescreen.  They are fascists. They are racist. They are bigots. They are to be mocked and laughed at, so here’s a picture care of Hope not Hate that will put a wee smile on your face….

The Daily Bale Continues It’s Libel Against the Globe in Leicester

A few days ago I documented how the fascist blog The Daily Bale spread a vicious piece of libel against the Globe pub in Leicester, and how failed Tory candidate Joshua Bonehill was the opportunistic ‘mind’ behind it all.

Today he’s posted this article on the Daily Bale.

With newspaper sales declining and popularity lacking for the Leicester Mercury, it’s been harsh times for the paper in recent months and a degree of desperation has consumed the offices of the Leicester Mercury. On Saturday 17th of august, the Daily Bale had reported on a story that came directly from the facebook page of the Globe pub In Leicester, shocking news that the pub had decided to ban all British military personnel.

After we broke the story, it was quickly distributed around the internet and went viral reaching the many far corners of the world as people stood unified in disgust against such a policy as a military ban.

If this post had not appeared and we hadn’t been alerted to this by a member of staff who worked at the globe then we would not of posted the story, it’s as simple as that.

Earlier today, somebody who does not wish to be named got in touch with the Daily Bale to give us a shocking insight onto what really happened on that day and why the Globe put that post up.

Our informant who will be named as Jane told us that The editor of the Leicester Mercury and the manager of the Globe pub had been colluding together in an attempt to draw mass publicity to the Globe Pub in order to revive business and the Leicester Mercury would be the first to report on the incident before selling the story across the world and profiting out of this whole affair.

Jane who has worked at the Globe for the past 2 months told us that both Richard Bettsworth (Editor, Leicester Mercury) and Chris Cobbett-Rayment (Pub manager and Middle class left-wing activist) has been meeting in a room at the premises several times before the story broke and would be seen to leave the room laughing.

In the wake of this scandal, the Globe Pub has seen a massive increase in profits and the Leicester Mercury has sold 4 times the amount of newspapers and made money from selling the story across the globe to the various media outlets.

Both of the men involved in this scandal are Left-Wing activists and have a history of attending UAF marches but what’s more shocking is that leader of Hope Not Hate, Nick Lowles frequents the Globe pub and is well Known to Chris the Manager. Is it just possible that Nick had anything to do with this as well?

The Police are currently investigating this incident and treating it as Malicious communications under the 1988 act, the Pub has alleged that their facebook page was hacked and the above message posted out. The Police will eventually find that the page was not hacked or compromised and the truth will be revealed.

The by-line again is by Steven Sodholmy, who is probably Bonehill rather than his crony Alex Wood, and again the article is full of the usual paranoid fascist nonsense we’ve come to expect from Bonehill, not to mention a massive deflection away from him as in fact the police are investigating those behind the Daily Bale, not the Globe, the Leicester Mercury or anything else the Daily Bale claims it is because the police have bloody told us what they’re investigating.

Even a casual reader can see the message in the article attributed to the Globe has the same style as the Daily Bale article which leads one to think that whomever hacked the Globe’s Facebook page and is behind the Daily Bale are the same people.

baleglobe

Of course that assumes that whomever wrote the article didn’t just Photoshop that image.

Assuming this is Bonehill then he’s clearly aware of just what he’s doing, and judging by the attitude on display he’s out to give his little band of fascists a martyr, but there’s no strength thorough purity here as Bonehill is hardly pure, and there’s no purity through faith as it appears he believes that if he makes the libel an enormous one then everyone, including the police, will believe him.

They won’t.

So stick by the Globe, the people of Leicester and those The Daily Bale attack. They won’t be the ones facing criminal prosecution at the end of all this.
